Rejuvenation of the skin (photo-rejuvenation)
Over time, the effects of the sun (UV rays) cause photo aging; changing the skin’s appearance. The first signs of aging are when fine lines and wrinkles begin to form around the eyes, lips, and forehead. Skin cells take more time to renew and the skin loses some of its collagen and elasticity. This will cause deepening of the lines and grooves that form in our brow, next to the nose, and down the corner of our mouths. As well eyelids will start to sag, cheeks and neck will appear flabby, skin irregularities such as pigment discoloration, brown spots and acne scarring may also occur.
Photo rejuvenation helps reduce the signs of aging on body parts exposed to the sun such as the face, neck, chest and hands. Your skin will look and feel revived, sun damage may disappear and you will have a much clearer, smoother complexion. Skin will also feel firmer, fine lines will be diminished, broken capillaries and redness eliminated.
The process is painless, quick and based on the biological mechanisms of the rebuilding of the skin. When low light energy is projected into the skin, the cells proliferate and stimulate collagen production and induce collagen and elastic tissue synthesis, thus rejuvenating the skin. Typically, a cure of 5 to 10 sessions is required in order to note a marked improvement in your skin tone, texture and complexion. There are no side effects and no recovery-time required.
Price per session may vary from 100$ to 150$ depending the body parts to be treated.

Counter-indications
- Tanned skin
- Infected skin area to be treated
- Intake of certain medications that are photosensitive
Pigmented lesions (Brown spots)
The most obvious manifestation of sun damage is pigmented lesions (Brown spots). These marks may be caused by overexposure to sun, aging or hereditary factors. Pigmented lesions are areas of high concentration of melanin, usually found on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands.
The treatment consists of destroying the pigment (melanin) using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). One can feel slight pain in the form of heat or similar sensation caused by an elastic band striking the skin.
A couple of days following treatment, the pigmented lesions may appear slightly darker than before and the lesions will form a thin crust. Note that the thin crusts will disappear in about ten days leaving rosy and new skin. This new skin will regain its color in a few weeks. We strongly recommend you apply a high protection sunscreen until the lesions are fully healed. While skin is crusting, it should not be scratched or picked at as this would damage the skin and leave marks.
The cost of a session varies depending on the number of lesions to be treated. This information will be given to you during your free consultation.

Vascular lesions (Rosacea, redness, blotches)
Vascular lesions can be described as chronic redness or red, blue purple veins under the skin’s surface. These small veins appear mostly around the nose, on the cheeks, sometimes on the chin and forehead..
The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) will treat the capillaries that are stretched like a spider’s web near the surface of the skin and are typically discoloured clusters. The light will break the layer of clotted blood allowing for free blood to flow through the capillaries and therefore disappearance of the reddish, purple color seen near the skin’s surface

Counter-indications
- Tanned skin
- Inflammatory rosacea
- A history of keloids (overgrowths of fibrous tissue or scars)
The cost of a session varies depending on the number of lesions to be treated. This information will be given to you during your free consultation.
Acne treatment
Acne is a skin disease caused by changes in the skin structures, it consists of hair the follicle and its associated sebaceous gland. Acne is most common during adolescence, affecting more than 90% of teenagers, and frequently continues into adulthood. For most people, acne diminishes over time and tends to disappear or at least decrease after one reaches his or her early twenties.
Acne is born when the opening of the hair follicle is blocked. Bacteria are then trapped in the hair follicule and begin to multiply rapidly. As the body’s immune system attempts to fight these bacteria, inflammation begins and acne appears.
The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) energy is absorbed by the skin, creating a short-lived heating sensation. The intensive light releases oxygenation which eliminates the bacteria and bacterial activity. This relieves the inflammation and acne scaring thus leaving you with soft and healthy skin.

Counter-indications
- Intake of certain medications that are photosensitive
- Retinoid based medication and creams.
Precautions
During summer months, we strongly advise you to apply a high protection sunscreen on the acne treated areas.
The cost of a session depends on the areas to be treated and may vary from $100 to $250 per session. This information will be given to you during your free consultation.
Tattoo Removal
Tattoos are the result of pigments that were inserted into the skin permanently. After these pigments (colors) are inserted into the skin they form various shaped constructions of pigment molecules that are too large to pass through the cells membranes hence they stay trapped inside the skin for many years.
When undergoing tattoo removal treatment, the energy of the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is absorbed by the pigments of the tattoo. This results in breaking the big molecule constructions into smaller ones. When a piece is small enough to pass throw the cells membrane it is dissolved in the blood stream.
Tattoo removal is somewhat painful however; it is possible to apply a numbing cream to the tattooed area one hour prior to treatment. Slight swelling, crusting and scabbing will appear 6 to 10 days post treatment. After several sessions the tattoo fades away.
The darker the tattoo is, the more energy it will absorb, the faster it will fade away.

Counter-indications
- Age of the tattoo should be greater than two months
- Skin area should not be tanned and should not be exposed to sunlight in the following months post treatment
Pricing is based upon the duration of time required for treatment as well the size of the tattoo to be treated. This information will be given to you during your free consultation.

The products:
Gels:
- Gel Lotion Cleanser: a one-step, non-perfumed cleanser, suitable for all skin types, so complete and non-irritating that it is recommended by medical and aesthetics professionals.
Once the skin surface is properly cleansed and ready to absorb precious nutrients, we are now ready to attack the most critical aging offender: the loss of in-depth moisturizers.
- Collagen Gel: plays a key role in effectively hydrating the dermis (Second layer of skin). Collagen is the skin’s principal moisturizer. Over time and with age, the skin loses its strength and therefore the collagen fibres weaken. Skin tissues are no longer well fed, will gradually thin and dry out therefore unable to continuously hydrate the skin.
Collagen accounts for up to 90% of the connective tissues, or the dermis. It fortifies the skin's foundation and improves the suppleness of the skin. Collagen gel should be applied in the evening and used before any creams.

- Elastin Gel: a natural complement to collagen that influences the elasticity and firming of the skin. It also plays a crucial role in skin hydration. Clayton’s Collagen and Elastin are in the form of gels and extracts that favours a deep penetration. Elastin gel should be applied in the morning and used before any creams. Clayton Shagal’s Elastin and Collagen work synergistically with each other.
Creams:
Moisturizing, Hynoderm, Placyderm and Hynopiderm
Surface lubrication is the last crucial operation of skin care management. Clayton Shagal’s light and creamy surface moisturizers are brimming with emollients and precious nutrients which are designed to parallel the normal moisturizing factors of the skin and give it that baby softness.
